• All students will be provided a key to the China Center and to a private book locker are encouraged to make full use of the facilities during regular hours of operation.

• Students must give one month's notice before vacating the off-campus university apartment, return the apartment key, and pay any remaining electric and telephone charges. The cooperation of every student on this matter is very important for us to maintain good working relations with the apartment manager and to ensure we are able to retain priority when reserving apartment space for future students.

• A required deposit of USD 60 will be taken out of the student stipends to cover the return of the China Center key and all library books and a deposit of USD 80 will be taken from the stipend of those students who borrow a China Center cell phone. These deposits, which will total no more USD140 will be deducted from the student room and board stipend in the amount up to USD 35 per month for four months. Deposits will be returned on the final day of the semester by automatic deposit to your bank account after your keys, cell phone and all library materials have been returned to Shentu Yujing, and after she has confirmed that all outstanding electricity, phone and rent bills have been paid and that the end-of-semester evaluation has been submitted either to her, the student representative or student executive.

• Students are not allowed to give or lend these keys or library materials to any other person other than a registered Global College China Center student.

• Students and guests are not allowed to sleep overnight at the China Center, and should not use the China Center for holiday storage.

• Much of the furniture in the China Center is not sturdy enough to withstand frequent misuse, so please take care not to lean back on the chairs, to put shoes up on the sofa, or sit on the conference table, and take extra care not to apply undue pressure on the keyboard and mouse trays attached to the computer tables, and especially the hot and cold water taps on the bottled water dispenser.

• The faculty office, including its desk space, chairs and computers, are for faculty use only.

• Food and non-alcoholic beverages may be consumed at the China Center, but perishable goods should not be stored on the premises. Food or drink, however, should not be eaten while working at the computers to avoid dirtying the keyboard and damaging equipment.

• Smoking is not allowed inside the China Center at any time.

• Since some students and faculty are allergic to animal dander, no pets are allowed on the center premises.

• Please be respectful of other students' physical and auditory space, possessions and needs. Music and television may be played if it does not bother the students or faculty, but headphones should be worn if requested or when in doubt. Wired headphones in the computer room and wireless headphones in the television area are provided for this purpose.

• Students should turn off cell phones while class is in session and faculty should turn cell phones to silent or vibrate (in case of emergency calls).

• Students not enrolled in a course should not work in the multifunctional conference room while class is in session, so as to not disrupt or distract other students and the instructor.

• Ms. Li Qingmei, the housekeeper, comes to the China Center nightly to clean the facilities and empty the trash. Please help make her job easier by cleaning up after yourself and by disposing of all trash in one of the wastepaper baskets located in each room.

• Please switch off all lights, air-conditioners, water dispenser (switch for water cooler is on the upper left of the backside and the button for water heater is on the front), TV, DVD player, satellite receiver, and computers if you are the last to leave the China Center or when a room is not in use.

• Please lockup the China Center front door if you are the last person to leave the premises, and make sure to close the front door even if just going to use the bathroom or stepping out for a coffee or cigarette. There is much valuable university equipment and personal belongings are often left in the open at the China Center, so it is up to each of us to safeguard these for each other. Please note that the front door to the China Center automatically single locks when closed.

• Students are encouraged to take full advantage of the China Center library facilities. All books, articles and films may be checked out on the honor system by entering your name on the library database on the computer named Confucius or on the signup list posted in the computer room on the notice board. It is particularly important to do so when there are many students working on similar topics with the same limited resources. Entering your name allows students to share these resources and helps faculty keep track of borrowed items. Please return books to the reshelving trolley after use. Students may check out up to three items at a time.

• You may check out all books and articles that are not marked as reserved or restricted. Please be aware that we have several books and documentary films that are banned in China. You are not permitted to lend or show these to Chinese classmates or friends. Lost books should be replaced by the student at the student's own expense using online bookstores, or the library deposit will not be returned.

• Students should not store any important files on the China Center computers. All computers at the China Center are subject to reformatting at the discretion of the Center Coordinator at any time, erasing all files on the hard drives. Therefore students are advised to make backups of all material either on CD or USB mass storage device, which are inexpensive and readily available in China.

• Students should not download or install software without the permission of the Center Coordinator, nor use the China Center computers or wireless connection to download music, movies, etc. that are not related to the academic program. The center's bandwidth cannot support such abuse.

• Like most public toilets in China, those at the China Center are not equipped with toilet paper and all used toilet paper and feminine hygiene products should be disposed of in wastebaskets to prevent clogging the plumbing.

• The Yamaha KX-76 MIDI Master Keyboard controller runs on 110 volts and requires a converter to run on 220 volts at the China Center (Hz frequency may run on either 50 or 60).
