Academic Director - Zhan Tianxiang 詹天祥


Professor Zhan Tianxiang joined the Friends World community soon after the Center moved to Hangzhou in 1989. Professor Zhan first began his employment with us as an adjunct lecturer and from 1991-2004 he was a Faculty Adviser. Currently, he teaches courses on traditional Chinese philosophy, the city of Hangzhou as a text for understanding traditional Chinese culture and history, and an engaging seminar on the legacy of Chairman Mao during the Chinese Revolution and the Cultural Revolution, landmark periods in modern Chinese history that he experienced firsthand.  Read more...

Faculty Advisor- Liu Wei 刘为


Professor Liu Wei began serving the China Center in 1996 as a regular guest speaker, and in 1997 he became an adjunct faculty member and student Faculty Adviser. Professor Liu Wei, a Chinese intellectual renowned locally and nationally for his forward—thinking and uncompromising individualism, teaches a cultural studies seminar on modern Chinese history in the fall and on Chinese nationalism in the spring. Faculty Advisor - Greg Livingston


Greg LivingstonGreg A. Livingston, M.Sc., L.Ac., is a licensed Chinese Medicine physician specializing in Chinese Internal Medicine. Dr. Livingston received his Master of Science degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine from the Five Branches Institute, College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, in Santa Cruz, California, in 1997. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate at Zhejiang University of Chinese Medicine in Hangzhou, where he specializes in Chinese Internal Medicine and clinical application of the Shang han lun, one of the most important classical texts of Chinese Medicine. He also has a clinical practice at the North American International Hospital in Hangzhou.  Read more...

Resident Director- Shentu Yujing 申屠宇静


Ms. Shen Tu Yu Jing has faithfully served on our program management team for all sorts of student services, field trips and projects since fall of 2005. She is a native of Hangzhou who graduated from the International Relationship Institute of P.L.A, Nanjing, and received an M.A. in International Trade and Finance from Department of Business and Law, Leeds Metropolitan University, Leeds, U.K.
