New Arrival

Early Arrival

Early arrival is permissible but will not be accommodated by faculty or staff. Please see the Important Dates page of this site for the standard arrival period each semester.

If you do arrive early we recommend you stay at one of the locations in either Shanghai or Hangzhou listed on the Hotels page of this site.

Getting to China

All students are encouraged to book tickets independently well in advance of departure through a U.S. travel agent. Students flying from New York should consider inexpensive international flights with stopovers through Seoul, Korea, and students flying from San Francisco or Los Angeles should consider international flights with stopovers through Osaka or Tokyo, Japan, on JAL, since both offer affordable direct international flights to Shanghai and Hangzhou.

Getting to Hangzhou

What Students Say

"The China Center was intellectually stimulating. Our professors gently guided us to become more open to other ways of thinking, and to gain a level of understanding and appreciation about the ancient culture and language and to embrace a different way of living and thinking."

—Maria Scheidel, Fall 2004
