Spring Semester

An intensive version of the fall semester orientation will take place in the first week of spring semester. Schedule to be announced.

Fall Semester

The one-week orientation program for fall semester begins when the students meet as a group in Hangzhou. The fall semester orientation includes a range of activities designed to help the student settle into his or her new life in China, and our faculty and staff will help students move into their accommodations, purchase bedding and bicycles, and open Bank of China Accounts. We will also have our first community meeting early in the week and assign Faculty Advisors to students, who will have their initial meeting in the first week to discuss logistical and academic plans.  Read more...

Hangzhou Scavenger Hunt

New fall semester students are encouraged to organize a Hangzhou Scavenger Hunt, an experiential way to orient new students with the cultural heritage of Hangzhou.

Continuing students make a list of challenges that relate to Chinese culture in Hangzhou, and each are assigned points according to their level of difficulty. Participants compete to document successful completion of each challenge over the course of the semester and the three contestants with the highest scores are rewarded with a prize by the China Center faculty. The purpose of the exercise is to encourage students to fully engage with the Chinese community of in our city in a way that is fun and challenging for students.
