Faculty Advisor - Greg Livingston

Greg A. Livingston, M.Sc., L.Ac., is a licensed Chinese Medicine physician specializing in Chinese Internal Medicine. Dr. Livingston received his Master of Science degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine from the Five Branches Institute, College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, in Santa Cruz, California, in 1997. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate at Zhejiang University of Chinese Medicine in Hangzhou, where he specializes in Chinese Internal Medicine and clinical application of the Shang han lun, one of the most important classical texts of Chinese Medicine. He also has a clinical practice at the North American International Hospital in Hangzhou.

A life-long love of science and nature led Dr. Livingston to study Chinese Medicine (CM), beginning in 1994. Under the opinion that any serious study of CM requires study of Chinese language, he has spent the last ten years studying Chinese and he is proficient in reading, writing, and conversation. Clinical practice, however, is his real passion. He especially enjoys teaching patients about the basic principles of CM so they may incorporate them into their lives to promote health and reduce dependence on doctors, including CM doctors. Dr. Livingston is a passionate teacher, with both an academic and empirical understanding of his subject.

Dr. Livingston began teaching at the China Center in spring semester, 2006, the course "Introduction to Chinese Medicine," which introduces students to the history, philosophy, theories, and practices of CM. While not designed to train clinicians, students will come away with basic knowledge of CM physiology and be able to apply these principles in their own lives in order to promote health and longevity.
