Hangzhou Scavenger Hunt

New fall semester students are encouraged to organize a Hangzhou Scavenger Hunt, an experiential way to orient new students with the cultural heritage of Hangzhou.

Continuing students make a list of challenges that relate to Chinese culture in Hangzhou, and each are assigned points according to their level of difficulty. Participants compete to document successful completion of each challenge over the course of the semester and the three contestants with the highest scores are rewarded with a prize by the China Center faculty. The purpose of the exercise is to encourage students to fully engage with the Chinese community of in our city in a way that is fun and challenging for students.

What Students Say

"The field trips are among the most fascinating experiences I have had in China. The China Center faculty bring us out to amazing locations and show us a part of China that is not only rarely seen by foreigners, but rarely seen by many Chinese people."

—Michael Sprague, Spring 2006
