Parents and friends who want to send mail to a Friends World student should use the appropriate address above. Students living on campus at the International Students Dormitory may use the dormitory address to receive mail since it is conveniently located at the reception desk in the lobby. Please be warned, however, that this is not a secure mailbox and is openly available to hundreds of international students, and students are required to file through much irrelevant mail to find their own and important mail can be easily misplaced or overlooked. Packages sent to this address, however, are comparatively secure, since all packages or delivery notices are kept by reception staff behind the desk and recipients are required to provide a signature in a registry for release.

The above China Center mailing address is a private mailbox located in the campus mailroom, not the dormitory. While this is a secure mailbox, it is located far from both the dormitory and the China Center, so a student mailperson will be appointed during Orientation Week to pickup and deliver student and faculty mail to the China Center. International packages will not be held by the campus mailroom, however, and must be retrieved by the student at the China Post branch office at 157 Yugu Road, or as otherwise indicated on the delivery notice.

Since international express mail packages will not be delivered to a mailbox, senders should indicate either the dormitory mailing address or the China Center physical address. If no one is present to receive the express mail package at the time of delivery, the postman will make three attempts and leave a package delivery notice with the reception staff at the dormitory or on the door of the China Center for pickup at the appropriate branch office. To pick up your package or to track a missing package use the appropriate website or phone number for UPS, Fed Ex, or DHL in China as listed below.

It is important to include the student's name as it appears on his or her passport since the student must show a valid passport to receive any international package and express mail from the post office (other forms of identification are not accepted). It is also advisable to write the recipient's address in lower case lettering, since some Chinese postal workers are less familiar with capital lettering, and to write the recipient's local phone number on all packages along with the recipient's email address on express packages to ensure proper delivery in the event the address is incomplete or improperly translated by the provincial post office. All mail and packages should be durable and well sealed.

Standard-weight business letters between China and the U.S. currently cost CNY 6 in postage. Mail posted to Taiwan should not include the politically controversial term R.O.C. in the address line in order to ensure successful delivery. The recipient's addresses on domestic envelopes should be written in the upper left quadrant and the sender's address should be written in smaller letters and in the lower right quadrant. If written in Chinese, the postal code is written on the first line or in the boxes printed on the envelope, followed by the province, city, and street address on the second line. The name of the sender or recipient is written on the bottom line and indented from the line above. This practice is not necessary for international mail. Postage may be applied on the upper right top corner of the envelope, but more typically postage is pasted on the backside of the envelope and across the seal for international mail or domestic mail requiring several postage stamps. Stamps and envelopes are not self-adhesive and should not be licked. Glue is provided at all post office branches, although it can be extremely messy, so we suggest bringing your own glue stick.
